Natural Swimming Pools

Sustainable, seamless and serene natural swimming pools and ponds, including organic pools.

Despite the name ‘natural’ swimming pools, these beautiful creations are not naturally made but are instead man-made in such a way that the swimming pool / pond blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

Natural swimming pools typically are made with two sections in mind. A section known as the regeneration zone that is populated with a variety of plants that help filter the water and ensure it remains clean and safe to use and of course the swimming section where you can practice your breaststroke or dip your toes. A small pump keeps the water circulating between the two.

Benefits of natural swimming pools over traditional pools

  • Less expensive to maintain: Due to the regeneration properties and self-sustainability with natural swimming pools, they cost a great deal less, to manage and maintain than a traditional pool.
  • Better for the environment: Traditional swimming pools require a range of harsh chemicals including chlorine to keep the water safe to use. Natural swimming pools use natural filtration through the means of plants and gravel. As nature intended one could say.
  • Supporting ecosystems: Due to the water being pumped, the water does not have chance to remain still and stagnant, helping to prevent mosquitos and instead providing a haven for small aquatic wildlife.

A natural swimming pool or pond is likely to cost slightly more for the initial build but over the course of its life, will typically work out more cost-effective due to the lower operating costs.

As with all aspects of landscape design, an array of decisions will be made depending on the environment, topography and soil found in your outdoor space. The plants selected will be chosen to match that of the climate and the wider design of the landscaped garden. Leaving you with a serene natural swimming pool or pond that blends seamlessly with the surroundings.
