Creating Regenerative Lifestyle Landscapes in Sussex
Beautiful places shaped by nature, designed for living.
We are a Sussex-based landscape design studio creating regenerative lifestyle landscapes for homeowners, landowners, and rural properties across Sussex and the South East.
Our work combines landscape design, ecological thinking, and natural building to create gardens and landscapes that are beautiful, productive, and rich in biodiversity.
From edible foodscapes and biodiverse waterscapes to timber-framed garden rooms and landscape recovery projects, we design places that grow in value—ecologically, aesthetically, and experientially.
Creating Living Legacies.
Nature-led Landscape Design in Sussex
The landscapes we create are designed to do more than look good.
They support wildlife, grow food, hold water naturally, create places for gathering and retreat, and reconnect people with the rhythms of the land.
Every project begins with understanding the character of the site and the long-term potential of the landscape itself.
We then develop a clear design vision that brings together ecology, function, and beauty.
Whether working at the scale of a garden, a building, or an entire landscape, our aim remains the same: to create places that become more beautiful, resilient, and alive with time.
Our Work
Every landscape presents a different opportunity.
For some, it is the creation of a garden that brings greater beauty, biodiversity, and connection to everyday life. For others, it may be a carefully crafted garden room immersed in nature, or a larger landscape seeking ecological recovery and long-term resilience.
While every project is unique, our work centres around three complementary areas, each rooted in the belief that well-designed landscapes should enrich both people and place.
Living Landscapes
The landscapes we inhabit have a profound influence on how we experience daily life. A thoughtfully designed garden can provide places to gather, spaces to retreat, opportunities to grow food, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Our Living Landscapes combine garden design and landscape design in Sussex with ecological understanding and a strong sense of place to create gardens that are both beautiful and functional. From edible foodscapes and productive gardens to natural swimming ponds, biodiverse waterscapes, and ecological planting, each landscape is carefully designed to support people and wildlife in equal measure.
Whether working with a family garden, a country home, or a larger rural property, our aim is to create landscapes that mature gracefully, becoming richer, more abundant, and more resilient with every passing year. The result is a landscape that not only enhances the character of a property, but enriches the experience of living within it.

Natural Buildings
Some of the most rewarding spaces sit at the boundary between home and landscape. A garden studio overlooking a pond, a timber-framed retreat nestled amongst trees, or a workspace immersed in nature can transform the way a landscape is experienced throughout the year.
Our Natural Buildings include timber-framed garden rooms, garden studios, home offices, and retreat spaces designed as a seamless extension of the wider landscape. Carefully considering views, light, materials, and their relationship to the surrounding environment, each building is positioned to strengthen the connection between architecture and nature.
Drawing on traditional craftsmanship and natural materials, we create garden buildings that feel grounded, enduring, and deeply connected to place. Whether designed as a creative studio, wellness space, guest accommodation, or garden office, each project forms part of a larger landscape vision, ensuring that building and landscape work together as a coherent whole.

Landscape Recovery
Across Britain, increasing attention is being given to the recovery of landscapes that have been degraded, simplified, or disconnected from natural processes. From private estates and rural landholdings to former industrial sites, quarry restoration projects, and habitat creation schemes, there is growing recognition of the role landscapes can play in supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, and long-term environmental health.
Our Landscape Recovery work combines ecological restoration, landscape design, and strategic land stewardship to help landowners, estates, and organisations unlock the full potential of their land. Through habitat creation, biodiversity enhancement, woodland establishment, wetland design, landscape remediation, and long-term management planning, we create frameworks for landscapes to recover, evolve, and flourish.
The aim is not simply restoration for its own sake, but the creation of landscapes that are ecologically rich, visually compelling, and capable of supporting future generations. By combining ecological expertise with thoughtful design, we help shape landscapes that contribute meaningfully to nature recovery while retaining a strong sense of place and purpose.

Our Process
Every project begins with a conversation about potential.
Land & Lifestyle Consultation (Complimentary)

Delivery & Stewardship
We support implementation alongside contractors, ecologists, and craftspeople to ensure the integrity of the design is realised on site.
The Science
Understanding more than just what is on show to the human eye is incredibly important in designing a landscape that is sustainable and built to last. Through soil science, we assess the biochemistry of the area to allow us to create a bespoke design that is made specifically for your particular environment. No two outdoor spaces are the same. Microclimate has a large impact on our design as every space is individual. There can be many microclimates in one garden.
There are many other factors that differentiate your garden from even a neighbouring garden of the same size. Buildings and trees can affect the amount of sun and shade, parts of the garden receive. Slight elevational changes can affect where water tends to settle, and the makeup and depth of the soil layers fluctuates continuously.
With a wealth of knowledge in soil science and biochemistry, we focus on designing a functional outdoor area that is sustainable, eco-friendly and above all making the space a work of heart. For more information on all the brainy stuff effecting landscape design, please click below.
About SolSeed Landscapes
Making your outdoor space a work of heart
SolSeed is a family run business based in the beautiful historical Sussex town of Lewes. Brett and Hayley are a well-rounded team. Brett has over 15 years of experience in landscaping and has the inspiration and the knowledge of ecological, environmental, and edible landscapes while Hayley draws the intricate and bespoke designs bringing their joint vision to life.
Following a first review of your outdoor space, we produce a Preparatory Report. This outlines our suggestions and includes detailed plans containing information on land contours, climate, plants, animals, light, shade, seasons, soil type, etc. This report is a fundamental building block in the design of your outdoor space.
Once we have completed a Preparatory Report for your outdoor space, that bit you have been waiting for begins. The talented Brett manages the design and installation phase; taking the utmost care and attention in creating the perfect outdoor space that mirrors the agreed report.
Following installation, ideally managed by SolSeed, we produce an optional Maintenance Plan, which sets out our recommended requirements including activities, frequency, specialist services needed, etc. It also includes a full calendar and itinerary of the ongoing care required. An invaluable toolkit to ensure the longevity of the outdoor space.
We have been nurturing landscapes of the future for a number of years now and have built up quite a reputation. To find out a little bit more about the talented SolSeed team, please click below.
